Jacksonville moved up eight spots on U.S. News and World Report's annual list of best places to live in America.

The annual list, released Tuesday, ranks 150 of the largest U.S. municipalities, weighing factors such as unemployment rate, housing costs, household income, crime rate, education, health care and air quality to determine the rankings. Cost of living and weather were factors for the first time this year.

Jacksonville moved up from 24th in 2022 to 16th in 2023's list, moving past Salt Lake City; Portland, Ore.; Albany, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; Boston; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Austin, Texas. No cities moved ahead of Jacksonville from last year's list.
