You have the chance to walk among jaw-dropping, life-size animatronic dinosaurs at a new exhibit at the Museum of Science & History in Downtown Jacksonville.
"Expedition: Dinosaur, Rise of the Mammals," turns the clock back to the Cretaceous Period, 66 million years ago, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth and explains how mammals evolved to become the dominant species after the downfall of the dinosaur era.
The exhibit will run through Sept. 10, 2023.
Anthony Mortimer, director of curatorial services for MOSH, is excited for the public to see it.
“Our guests have really come to expect that our summer travel exhibition will pretty much always be dinosaurs or some sort of creature. We are very happy to oblige, because "Expedition: Dinosaur, Rise of the Mammals" is a great example of the high-quality travel exhibition standards that we are bringing for the public.”
This exhibit combines life-size and exact animatronic dinosaurs, including T-Rex, Torosaurus and Ankylosaurus.
Visitors will have the opportunity to stand face-to-face with life-sized dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals, have their picture taken in the jaws of a T-Rex and study fossils that are as many as 300 million years old.
“This new exhibition invites MOSH visitors to discover a new side of a story many think they know,” Bruce Fafard, CEO of MOSH, said in a news release. “The myths and legends of dinosaurs are abundant, but there is always more to learn."
Admission to the traveling exhibition is included in the price of general admission ($19.95 for adults, $16.95 for youth, students active and retired military and seniors). Admission is free for children ages 2 and under and for MOSH Members.
