First off in Friday’s Florida Roundup, it was a Trumpian spectacle in Tampa earlier this week as the president came to town.
The rally Tuesday at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall drew the president’s strongest supporters as he stumped for his preferred candidate for governor- Ron Desantis.
Riding the wave of that Trump endorsement, DeSantis, a Palm Coast area congressman, has pulled ahead of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam for the Republican nomination for governor.

Summer Of Yuck
The other big story around the state this week - is what you might call our summer of yuck.
Gov. Rick Scott said Friday he’s directing state agencies “to mobilize all available resources to address red tide impacts in Southwest Florida’s coastal communities.”
Red tide is killing fish and other wildlife by the thousands this summer, and algae blooms are popping up around the state as well, particularly in Lake Okeechobee to the south, and in Doctors Lake in North Florida.
The situation is infuriating residents and business owners in spots around the state.
