With less than a week to go before Election Day, President Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Joe Biden held rallies Thursday in Tampa, with more Florida rallies scheduled over the weekend with their surrogates.

Both campaigns are attempting to sway voters still holding on to mail-in ballots, planning to vote early or on Election Day.

WUSF’s Steve Newborn attended the Biden rally, and joined us to discuss both of them.

Chris Cillizza, a reporter and editor at large with CNN Politics, also spoke with us about Florida’s importance in the 2020 election.

Audio Postcards From Florida Voters

Voters from across the crucial I-4 Corridor have shared their thoughts on the upcoming election in their own words via audio postcards. This week, we heard from Michelle of DeBary in Volusia County.

WUSF’s Jessica Meszaros produced the audio postcard as part of America Amplified, a national reporting initiative supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

COVID-19 Testing In Florida

Labs in Florida are processing coronavirus tests more quickly than they were when the pandemic began seven months ago. But on average, it is still taking between 24 and 72 hours for most people to get their test results.

Health experts say that the 1-3 day window can impact contact tracing and quarantine efforts, which help prevent the disease from spreading.

We were joined by Health News Florida Editor Julio Ochoa, and Veronica Zaragovia, WLRN’s health care reporter, who have been reporting on the subject, to discuss it and the latest on the pandemic.
