Jacksonville’s Pink Ribbon Golf Classic charity in Ponte Vedra will help raise funds for local breast cancer research.
According to the American Cancer Society, over 232,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer have occurred in the United States for 2013. This means more than 500 First Coast men and women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014.
Spokeswoman for the charity, Mandy Morrow, said the charity has raised over $600,000 since it began in 2007.
The event will feature a tee-off cocktail party and silent auction Oct. 9, an all-women golf tournament at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club Oct. 10, and an Underwood Jeweler’s trunk show Nov. 14.
All profits will go to Baptist Medical Center Beaches and the Mayo Clinic for research and medical equipment that helps diagnose breast cancer.
“We wanted to be able to give every single dollar we have to these two great organizations,” Morrow said.
The charity has helped Baptist Medical purchase a digital mammography machine and hire a Breast Cancer Care Coordinator.
Contributions for the Mayo Clinic have supported Edith A. Perez, M.D. and her team of researchers.
“All that participate know where their dollars are going,” Morrow said. “They can see that it’s really doing some good.”
