It’s only three weeks until school starts up again in Duval County but some kids won’t make it past the front door.
Health officials are reminding parents that students need to be up-to-date on their vaccinations before they go back to school.
Dr. Kelli Wells, director of the Duval County Health Department, says many children get sent home each year because they don’t have the proper immunizations.
“Those kids will be identified, notes go home to parents, and then we at the health department and a number of private pediatricians in the community will be bombarded with phone calls trying to get their kids in," she said.
The health department has launched a campaign called “Go to the Head of the Class" in an effort to help families get kids up-to-date on their immunizations and physicals.
Parents can bring children to the walk-in center on 5220 N. Pearl Street in Jacksonville. Officials will check the kids’ records any give them any needed vaccinations free of charge.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
2nd and 4th Wednesday 8:00 am - 12 noon
School Physicals available:
July 8-August 21
Tuesdays and Thursdays
8:00 am - 3:00 pm
$30 per exam
(no sports physicals)
