JSO Seeks Suspects In Identity Theft Scam

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in identifying a man who allegedly bilked an 82-year old woman out of $8,500.

Police say the suspect and another individual knocked on the victim’s door, showed her a badge and told her they needed her help to combat identity theft.

The three then drove the victim’s car to the bank and got her to withdraw money from her checking and savings accounts.

The woman told police they put the cash into two envelopes and gave them to her but, when she opened them later, she found they contained nothing but scrap paper.

Needless to say she didn’t get the $1,000 reward the suspects promised to give her for helping them.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the JSO at 904-630-0500 or JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.  Or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
