The Main Street Bridge was closed briefly around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after police officers looking for homeless encampments in a small wooded area between the Acosta Bridge and Main Street Bridge on ramps to I-95 happened upon two men cooking what turned out to be methamphetamine.
According to Lt. Larry Kitchen with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the JSO bomb squad and the fire department’s hazmat (hazardous materials) team were called to the scene. Vehicles coming off the Main Street Bridge on Jacksonville’s Southbank were rerouted onto Prudential Drive.
Traffic returned to normal around 5 p.m.
