JEA Warns Of Energy Audit Scam

JEA is warning customers about a scam making its way around the area. Someone claiming to be with JEA is calling residents offering an energy audit that will result in a 25% savings in electrical bills.

The caller makes a home appointment, and then attempts to sell equipment and services to the homeowner.

JEA spokesperson Gerri Boyce says its a scam designed to get inside customer's houses. She says while JEA will provide a free energy audit when asked they do not try to sell anything. They also don't make promises as to how much energy savings can be achieved ahead of the audit because every house is different.

Boyce says during a real energy audit, a JEA representative will conduct a walkthrough of the home and make suggestions on what improvements can be made to save energy.

She says anyone who has been contacted by the scammers should call JEA at 665-6000.
