October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and while the JSO recently reported the number of domestic abuse-related deaths is declining in Jacksonville, more incidents are beign reported.
Peggy Payne, the CEO of Quigley House in Orange Park, wants women (and men) who are being abused to realize free help and support is available.
"Our facility, Hubbard House, the Betty Griffin House in St. Johns County, and other shelters around the state- we all work together. Our services are free. If what is holding you is fear that you can't eat and have no place to stay if you leave, we want you to not worry about that," she said.
Quigley House is holding an awareness event, the Purple Ribbon Golf Tournament, at 1 p.m. Oct. 17, Fleming Island Golf Club, 2260 Town Center Blvd. Visit QuigleyHouse.org for more information.
