Empowering communities to take control over gang violence is the goal of a public forum happening Monday evening on Jacksonville’s northwest side.
Three county School Board members are leading the meeting.
District 4 School Board member Paula Wright says people should come to Monday evening’s meeting ready to listen and take notes.
Wright said, “We want to enlighten our entire community on aspects of gang activity. And I think people don’t know what to look for, and if you don’t know what to look for, you can’t begin to solve the problem.”
Wright and fellow board members Connie Hall and Becki Couch are inviting a school police officer to share what he’s learned. School Resource Officer Jeffrey Shouse will talk about Gang Awareness and What Communities Can Do. The meeting starts at 6 at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church on 2803 Edgewood Avenue West, Jacksonville, FL 32208.
