An investigation is underway by the state of Florida into Redflex, the company that helps cities catch red-light runners on camera.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is going to investigate whether a political bribery scandal at the Redflex firm extends to its red-light camera contracts with five Florida cities, including here in Jacksonville.
During an appearance on WJCT's First Coast Connect, Mark Seiden, an attorney and professor with Florida Coastal School of Law, said he is skeptical of the value that red-light cameras provide.
Seiden said, “I think the cameras are nothing more than income generation for Redflex and the city, and their safety value is quite dubious.”
