Baldwin Police-Involved Shooting Ends With No Injuries, Suspect In Custody

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer is on administrative leave and a robbery suspect is behind bars after a police-involved shooting in Baldwin Monday.

Sheriff’s Office Chief Tom Hackney says 12-year JSO veteran Officer Jeff Webster was patrolling the area, looking for an armed robbery suspect. The robbery was caught on camera last week at the IGA grocery store.

Webster believed he saw the suspect around noon Monday, and pursued him. Hackney says the man fled on foot and jumped a fence.

“That subject kind of turns at him in a threatening way, moving a little bit toward his waist to the point that, from what we have now, that the officer feared for his life, and the officer pulled his firearm and discharged two shots at the suspect.”

Hackney says no one was injured in the shooting. The suspect hasn’t been formally charged with a crime, and JSO isn’t releasing his name at this time.
