If the St. Johns River Ferry is normally part of your commute, you’ll want to give yourself lots of extra time this week.
The ferry has been out of service since Saturday after an inspection found its steering unit was damaged and will need to be replaced.
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority anticipates resuming ferry service by mid-week after the repair is complete, spokesman David Cawton said in an email to WJCT News.
When it’s operating, the ferry transports cars between Mayport and Fort George Island seven days a week.
"The safety of our crew and customers remains our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience as we expedite this repair," Cawton said.
