ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson is urging the leaders of Florida's 410 municipalities to pressure their federal lawmakers into ending the partisanship that has kept legislation on immigration and transportation from passing in Washington in recent months.

Nelson made his plea Friday at the Florida League of Cities annual conference in Orlando.

Nelson said he finds it frustrating and disappointing that member of Congress nowadays can't seem to get along.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida's unemployment rate is staying flat.

State officials announced Friday that the state's jobless rate has remained at 7.1 percent for the third straight month. The state rate, however, remains below the national unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.

More than a quarter of Floridians speak a language other than English in their homes.

New U.S. Census Bureau figures released Tuesday show that 27 percent of Floridians speak a language other than English. That's higher than the national average of 20 percent. Only six other states have higher rates: California, Texas, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York and Nevada.
