Today’s Media Roundtable discussed some of the top stories in the First Coast, including:

  • Two separate breakfasts will honor civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. City Hall and Mayor Lenny Curry will host one while the local chapter of the NAACP hosts another. For the fourth year in a row, the separate breakfasts highlight the division between City Hall and the NAAPC.
  • Local activist Ben Frazier held a press conference with attorney John Phillips announcing his plans to sue Gov. Ron DeSantis in state and federal court if trespassing charges against him are not dropped.
  • Supply chain issues continue to affect Floridians’ weekly shopping trips. Meanwhile, Jacksonville residents continue to voice their frustrations about the lack of curbside recycling. The city has no plan to reinstate the recycling program.
  • $1.2 million in taxpayer money is slated to go toward the demolition of the Berkman II building. On Tuesday, City Council voted 15 to 1 to authorize the spending after the private owner did not pay for the implosion. City general counsel said council approved the measure without public comments because it is a safety hazard.
