Governor Rick Scott was in Jacksonville Tuesday to tout his proposal to cut taxes and fees by half a million dollars, most of which would come from rolling back auto registration fees.Standing in the showroom of Volkswagon of Orange Park, Scott said cutting back fees to 2009 levels would give families their money back while encouraging the purchase of more vehicles.
He said he believes the state legislature will support his proposal.
"They want more people to get jobs they want to put money in families pockets," he said. "They know if we put money in families pockets they will by a house they will by a car, they maybe will start a business and create more jobs."
Orange Park Volkswagon Owner Jack Hanania says he hopes cutting the registration fees will lead to more business at the nearly dozen car dealerships he owns in Florida.
"This will hopefully come in get more sales out of this because it cost less now to get the cost of a registration than it was before," he said.
If approved auto registration fees in Florida would be reduced by about $20 a year. Scott also looking for $100 million in unspecified budget cuts.
