Duval Property Apprasier Jim Overton To Run For Mayor Of Jacksonville

Florida Times-Union

Duval County Property Appraiser Jim Overton says he will run for Mayor of Jacksonville. He expects to file in the next few days. Overton says with two and a half terms on the City Council and three-terms as property appraiser he has the experience to be Jacksonville’s next mayor. He can’t run for Property Appraiser again due to term limits.

He said he wants to improve the city’s parks and make other improvements to Jacksonville.

"Got a lot of parks that are not particularly high-quality parks in a lot of cases and I'm going to start talking about those things, " he said.

"I'm going to talk about our governance and how it needs to improve. We're going to talk a little bit about how the arts scene is going in Jacksonville and generally speaking I'll talking about quality of life issues."

Overton is the first Republican to announce his intentions to run for mayor.

Others Republicans who have indicated they may run include Sheriff John Rutherford, City Council President Bill Gulliford and GOP State Party Chairman Lenny Curry. The election is set for March 2015.
