The heat is on in the race for Florida Governor, with both candidates making some high profile appearances in recent days.Former Republican governor, now Democratic candidate, Charlie Crist said Tuesday that a “big reason” he left the Republican Party was because many in the GOP are hostile to President Obama due to his race.
In an interview with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos, Crist said that he felt uncomfortable with his previous party affiliation. He had gone from Republican to Independent, and to now Democrat.
Crist holds a double-digit lead in at least one poll over Scott. However, Republicans have condemned Crist’s remarks as inaccurate and inflammatory.
They also charge that Crist left the GOP not because of racism, but because he couldn’t win a U.S. Senate primary against Marco Rubio.
