Palatka State Rep. Accuses Common Core Test Maker Of Turning Kids Gay

Florida House of Representatives

An anti-Common Core rant by Florida State Representative Charles Van Zant is making the rounds online.

Van Zant (R-Palatka) said at an Operation Education Conference in Orlando in March that the company hired by the state to develop Common Core-based standardized tests is pushing an "LGBT agenda."

The video of Van Zant taken at the conference was posted on ThinkProgress.org on Monday.

American Institutes for Research, Van Zant said, “will promote double-mindedness in state education and will attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can."

AIR has denied similar accusations in the past. Florida is paying AIR $220 million to create student assessments based on the state’s standards.
