Former U.S. Ambassador Discusses 'Putin's Russia'

University of North Florida

With strong words from President Obama from the capital of Estonia and a proposed cease-fire gone awry, it seems the eyes of the Western World are watching Russia in a way they have not in decades.

The President was in Estonia Wednesday en route to the NATO summit in Wales where the subject of the Russia’s incursion into Ukraine and the U.S.’s next move will be a point of major discussion.

Stanford Hoover Fellow Michael McFaul served as U.S. Ambassador to Russia from 2012 to 2014, and as a special assistant to the President at the National Security Council from 2009 to 2011. He’ll be at the University of North Florida later this month for a special talk entitled “Confronting Putin’s Russia.”

He spoke to WJCT’s Rhema Thompson earlier this week about Russia, Putin and the current crisis in Ukraine.

Rhema Thompson began her post at WJCT on a very cold day in January 2014 and left WJCT to join the team at The Florida Times Union in December 2014.
