Republican primaries will be held tomorrow in Northeast Florida for three spots in the state legislature.
Florida political juggernaut John Thrasher stepped down from his senate seat after 30 years to become the president of Florida State University last year.
Two state representatives are running for Thrasher’s vacated Senate spot: Ronald “Doc” Renuart of Ponte Vedra Beach, and Travis Hutson of Elkton. Dennis McDonald of Flagler Beach is also competing to represent the district, which covers St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, and part of Volusia counties.
Because Renuart and Hutson are running for the Senate, they are vacating their seats in the Florida House. Those will also be filled in this special election.
Danielle Anderson, Sheamus McNeeley, Paul Renner and Ron Sanchez are all competing in the Republican primary for Hutson’s District 24 seat, which covers Flagler county and some of St. Johns and Volusia counties.
John "Jack" Capra, Michael Davis and Cyndi Stevenson are vying for Renuart’s seat in District 17, which includes parts of St. Johns County.
Polls open at 7 Tuesday morning.
