Florida Governor Rick Scott has vetoed millions of dollars in state money that would have gone to Northeast Florida projects and organizations.
Of a nearly $80 billion dollar state budget, Scott’s vetoes include $1 million intended to renovate the St. Johns River Ferry and its landing sites in Mayport.
Scott also cut $1.2 million for Jacksonville’s Sulzbacher Center homeless shelter, $2 million for Jacksonville University, $500,000 for a Duval childcare-rating pilot program called Guiding Stars, and $2.5 million toward building a sports complex intended as a practice facility for the Armada Soccer team.
In his veto letter, Scott said he wants to save taxpayers money by investing in what he called “areas with proven results.”
