02/12/15: Author Brooke Stephens; Rethreaded; Kerry Speckman; The Capitol Steps

Anchor Publishing

Local author Brooke Stephen's new book, "Men We Cherish: African-American Women Praise the Men in Their Lives," hopes to counteract the often negative image of black men in American culture. She will be discussing the book at a meeting of the PRIDE Book Club this weekend. We speak with Stephens and PRIDE Book Club's Felice Franklin about the portrayal of African-American men in our media and popular culture.

Kristen Keen, founder and director of the local nonprofit Rethreaded, joins us to discuss the group's upcoming Mukti Celebration fundraiser event, and their work helping women caught in human trafficking and prostitution.

We also check out all of the events going on around town with Kerry "The Specktator" Speckman.

And the members of the famed political satire comedy troupe The Capitol Steps join us with a preview of their performances here on the First Coast this week.
