The Jacksonville Fire of 1901
It was one of the worst disasters in Florida history. On May 3, 1901, much of Jacksonville burned to the ground. This city’s Great Fire remains the third largest urban fire in the U.S., after the Great Chicago Fire and the 1906 San Francisco Fire. Now, 120 years later, the Jacksonville Historical Society is marking the anniversary of the Great Fire here with a5K called the Fire Run. It’s coming up this weekend. Alan Bliss, CEO of the Jacksonville Historical Society joined us with a preview.
