June is Men’s Health Month, and doctors are promoting awareness on men’s health issues.

During an appearance on WJCT's “First Coast Connect,” Dr. Brent Beadling with St. Vincent’s Primary Care in Jacksonville discussed men’s health issues.

He says men are less likely than women to go to the doctor for checkups.

“Most often if there’s no pain involved, men just don’t want to come in to see a doctor,” Beadling said.

But Beadling says regular check-ups are essential to preventing serious health conditions.

“Just by changing your diet and your lifestyle can sometimes decrease your risk,” Beadling said. “Or going into the doctor and getting a regular check up and finding out if you have any underlying conditions.”

He says many of the most common health issues he sees in men are preventable.

They include high blood pressure, diabetes, depression and high cholesterol.
