Construction is expected to begin this fall on a new Jacksonville Beach hotel at Beach Boulevard and South Third Street.
The Jacksonville Beach Planning Commission has approved amended plans by Shivam Properties II, LLC to build an Element by Westin Hotel.
The three-story boutique hotel will have 80 rooms, meeting space, a bar and outdoor seating, with covered and outdoor parking.
Although the hotel will not have a full-service restaurant, it will include a kitchen and warming food service.
It’s expected to have 39 covered parking spaces and 42 uncovered parking spaces.
The plan calls for site preparation to begin in October with foundations poured in November. Vertical construction is expected by March 2020 with an opening by August 2020.
The expected cost of the development isn’t listed in the site plan.
Element by Westin describes its hotels as "being kind to the environment," saying it "has made a brand-wide commitment for all Element Hotels to operate to sustainable and green practices."
The chain operates 86 Element hotels across the world, including 64 in North America.
Shivam Properties already operates four hotels at the Beaches:
- Best Western Oceanfront, Jacksonville Beach
- Four Points by Sheraton, Jacksonville Beach
- Holiday Inn Express, Jacksonville Beach
- Days Inn, Neptune Beach, FL
In addition, Shivam Properties has a Best Western Somerset Inn in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
The Jacksonville Beach City Clerk's Office told WJCT News the Element by Westin project was approved at the Commission's April 23 meeting.
