Family Of Three Arrested In JSO Officer Shooting

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

A family of three have been arrested for a series home robberies connected to the shooting of a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer on Wednesday.

Edward Garvin, his wife Sherry and daughter Teal were taken into custody at the Big Cash Pawn Shop on Beach Boulevard.

Garvin struggled with the officers. He drew a gun and fired while being taken to the ground. The bullet grazed Officer J.C. Prentiss’ arm.

JSO Chief of Investigations Annie Smith says the department had earlier notified area pawn shops about the suspects. She says the three had pawned at least 90 items over a short period of time. Many of the items were found to have been reported stolen.

The owner of Big Cash Pawn recognized the suspects as they entered his business to buy back a gun that had been owned by Sherry Garvin. All three face numerous charges connected to the robberies. Edward Garvin is also charged with six counts of attempted murder.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
