Free Music This Weekend At Tree Hill Nature Center

Jacksonville’s Tree Hill Nature Center will be hosting the Music on the Hill Community Festival at the Joseph A. Strasser Amphitheater Saturday, Oct. 12.

The event will feature live animal shows, crafts, food, and live musical performances from artists like the Boathouse Cello Choir and the First Coast Clarinet Society.

Mark Mummaw, director of Tree Hill, said the event will help promote environmental awareness throughout the community with live entertainment and hands-on, educational programs.

The gorgeous, outdoor nature preserve lies in the middle of Jacksonville as one of the First Coast’s cultural gems.

“It’s a zoo, a city park and a museum,” Mummaw said, “where people can really connect with the environment.”

Tree Hill opened in 1971, and is now home to over 50 acres of nature trails, gardens and animal exhibits, as well as the Florida Natural History museum.

Mummaw said a new, 500’ boardwalk connects two sections of the campus, and said he expects the nature preserve to expand even further with the addition of a new butterfly garden and house.

The festival is free, and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
