The only candidate currently running for Florida’s District 6 State Senate seat has received multiple notices from the Florida Department of State over her failure to file campaign finance documents.
The longshot candidate is Brooklyn Owen, a 20-year-old transgender activist running without the support of a political party or political action committee.
Every month since February, Owen has received multiple notices from the DOS, saying she has not filed either a campaign treasurer’s report or a notification that there had been no reportable activity, whichever is applicable. Owen is now accruing fines, and if nonpayment continues, she may be issued a civil penalty by the Florida Elections Commission.
Owen told WJCTNewsin March that she would support a state version of the Green New Deal, a jobs guarantee, and increased funding for education.
The District 6 seat, which includes Jacksonville, is currently held by Democrat Audrey Gibson. Gibson will be term-limited out in the 2022 election.
Owen did not respond to requests for comment for this story.
