The Jacksonville Jaguars have a new general manager.
The team announced in a tweet Thursday it has promoted Director of Player Personnel Trent Baalke to general manager. Baalke had been serving as the team's interim GM following former GM Dave Caldwell being fired in late November.
Caldwell had a record of 39 wins and 86 losses in his seven years in the position, according to ESPN.
Baalke had a winning record as the former GM of the San Francisco 49ers, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2012.
Jaguars owner Shad Khan said Baalke “has an exceptional eye for talent” and he expects him to have “strong chemistry” with new Head Coach Urban Meyer.
The Jaguars will have the first overall pick in the NFL Draft this April.
Khan released the following statement about Baalke’s promotion:
Trent has had success at virtually every level of football, notably so as a general manager who shrewdly and quickly built an NFL conference championship organization and team.
That experience inspired us to recruit Trent to Jacksonville a year ago to serve as our director of player personnel and is one of many reasons why we are naming Trent as the new general manager.
Trent thoroughly knows the NFL and the dynamics of today’s game, has an exceptional eye for talent and I know will have excellent chemistry with Head Coach Urban Meyer as they begin their mission to bring a consistent winner to our fans in Jacksonville.
