JEA Works To Fix Scattered Outages Friday Following Storm That Set New Record

Lawn furniture was tossed about and damaged at this Lakewood area home in Jacksonville Thursday night.

Late Friday morning just under 900 customers were without power following Thursday night’s severe weather.

JEA was working on 54 power outages as of 11 a.m. in various parts of town.

WJCT News partner News4Jax reported winds gusts topped 70 mph at one point last night, bringing down a few trees, and hail pelted vehicles in some parts of town. The highest gust measured was 76 mph at NAS Jacksonville.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville reported Thursday night’s squall line set an all-time February record for the most rainfall in a five-minute period. That happened between 10:16 and 10:21 p.m.,  when an estimated 0.51 inches of rain was measured.

The second-strongest officially measured wind gust for the month of February was recorded at 53 mph at Craig Executive Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

Looking ahead, a sunny weekend is forecast, with deminishing winds Friday. Clear skies are expected with a high of 64 degrees on Saturday and 70 degrees on Sunday.
