Leggett & Platt Inc. sent a letter to state officials last week saying it will close its wire mill plant at 925 Lane Ave. N. by the end of the year, putting 101 people out of work.
WJCT News partner the Jacksonville Daily Record reports the notice filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act said the closure is due to a consolidation of operations.
Missouri-based Leggett & Platt manufactures products including furniture and automotive seat components.
The WARN notice said the Jacksonville plant produces drawn steel wire.
The 150,000-square-foot Northwest Jacksonville plant is owned by Adcom Wire Co., an affiliate of Leggett & Platt, according to Duval County Property Appraiser records.
It was built in 1980 and expanded in 1999.
The company plans to begin releasing employees on Nov. 22 and continue through the end of the year, with a small group remaining for cleanup operations into the first quarter of 2020.
