A memorial service is scheduled July 16 for former University of North Florida President Anne Hopkins, who died during the weekend, according to the university.
Hopkins served as president of the Jacksonville school from 1999 to 2002 and then worked as a political-science professor.
“Dr. Hopkins will be remembered elevating the student engagement opportunities, faculty research projects and the overall prominence of the university as well as spearheading a capital campaign that greatly contributed to the university’s ongoing growth and development,” current UNF President David Szymanski said in a prepared statement.
“Years after her retirement, she frequently attended UNF functions to engage with students and faculty and continued to give back to the university. She will be greatly missed.”
The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., July 16, at Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, according to the university.
Hopkins was the second former state university president to die in recent weeks. Former Florida A&M President Frederick Humphries died June 24.
