A film studio up the road from Jacksonville - in Kingsland, Ga. - invites Star Trek fans to drop by this weekend to sit in the captain’s chair, check out the transporter room and meet some of the Trekkies involved in keeping the series alive online.
It’s called Neutral Zone Studios and it’s owned by long-time Star Trek fan Ray Tesi.
“Neutral Zone Studios is essentially a recreation of the sets that were at Paramount in the original series. You can actually come in and walk the sets. So this is really open to anybody who either is or is not a Star Trek fan who wants to come see what a real studio looks like,” said Tesi.
The original Star Trek series ran from 1966 to 1969 and followed the crew of the USS Enterprise on their mission to boldly go where no man had gone before.
Neutral Zone Studios in Kingsland is the homeworld of Star Trek Continues, Dreadnought Dominion and a number of other fan-fiction productions.
The studio’s free Fan Appreciation Weekend starts Friday afternoon, October 18, and goes through Sunday, October 20.
Among the featured guests scheduled to appear is Bjo Trimble. She is well known to older fans of the original series for leading the letter writing campaign that led to NBC renewing Star Trek for a third season.
Judy Burns, who wrote “The Tholian Web” for Star Trek’s third season, is also scheduled to attend.
