The Three W's With Ag Commissioner, Everglades Oil Drilling & Live From The 305 Season Finale

Nikki Fried won her position by successfully campaigning on the "three W's:" weapons, water and weed.

Nikki Fried won her position by successfully campaigning on the "three W's:" weapons, water and weed.

Since starting her position in January, Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried has advocated for access to smokable medical marijuana. She recently appointed Holly Bell as new Director of Cannabis to oversee the state's medical marijuana program. Fried has also been addressing the state's concealed weapons permitting program and tackling the water crisis along the state of Florida. All of these decisions seemed to be based on the "three W's:" weapons, water and weed, that Fried based her campaign on.  She joined Sundial to talk about her key priorities in her first months in office and answer listener questions.

Listen to today's show.

Earlier this month, a judge gave green light for a Broward County-based real estate company to begin exploratory oil well drilling just east of the Everglades. The Kanter Group LLC wants to drill a few miles West of Miramar and 10 miles south of Alligator Alley. The ruling has raised concerns among some environmentalists and lawmakers that fear the drilling could have major impacts on wetland-protected areas. Broward County Commissioner Beam Furr and Matthew Schwartz, Executive Director of South Florida Wildlands Association both oppose the exploratory drilling and joined Sundial to express their concerns.

And it’s the finale of Season Two of Live from the 305. For the past few months, we've been bringing you music from local bands and musicians who call South Florida home. Today, Sundial presents Haitian American artist Inez Barlatier. In 2017, Inez was awarded $10,000 from the Knight Foundation, which gave her the funds to make her first EP, "MOUN|MOON," which is set to drop Friday, March 1. Inez joined Sundial to talk about how her father inspired her musical career and how she uses a pedal looper to create rich beats in her music.
