Wet weather forced the production from Cascades Park to The Moon. But Saturday night's live musical production of the movie "Underground" lost none of its audience impact because of the venue change.

Production Director Lily Forbes welcomed a full-house audience.

"I'm going to say welcome and welcome to Underground: The Musical in Concert!" she announced to kick off the performance.

The musical was based on Tallahassee filmaker Akil DuPont's award-winning movie of the same name. Both productions, said Forbes, focused on American slavery and its legacy.

"And there's nothing wrong with going back into history and learning about what happened to our ancestors, learning about the lives that were lost and saved," she explained to the crowd during her introductory comments.

Organizers hope they can present a yearly production under the Sankofa Concert banner to promote multi-cultural appreciation and understanding.
