Winn-Dixie To Open New Mandarin Store As It Converts Former Earth Fare, Lucky’s Locations

May 27, 2020

Four former Lucky's Markets and four former Earth Fare stores in Florida, including one in Jacksonville, will become Winn-Dixies.

In Jacksonville, Winn-Dixie will be moving across the street from its current location, taking over the old Earth Fare at 11700 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin.

"The current store will transition later this year to the former Earth Fare space. Associates will transfer to the new location to coincide with the new store opening and to best serve our customers and the Mandarin community," said Kaley Shaffer, Senior Manager, Consumer Communications and Community Affairs, Southeastern Grocers in an email to WJCT News.

Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers is Winn-Dixie's parent company. Shaffer did not say what will happen to Winn-Dixie's current San Jose Blvd. location once it moves out.

Southeastern Grocers finalized agreements to purchase former Lucky's Market locations in Fort Myers, Gainesville, Lake Mary and Melbourne. The former Earth Fare stores it bought are in Boynton Beach, Jacksonville, Lakewood Ranch and Viera.

Jacksonville's supermarket landscape has been shifting over the past year. Winn-Dixie opened at the Gateway Town Center in Brentwood in February, taking over the former Publix space.

Meanwhile, Native Sun Natural Foods Market returned to Jacksonville Beach after Lucky's and Earth Fare closed, while a new Whole Foods is under construction at Pablo Plaza in Jacksonville Beach.

Sprouts Farmers Market opened a new location at 12675 Beach Blvd. last month and Publix will open its first Northeast Florida GreenWise Market in Nocatee.
