Capital Report: January 24, 2025

Florida’s Legislative leaders have officially made the call: the state House and Senate are scheduled to meet in special session at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. However, as Lynn Hatter reports it remains unclear whether the governor will get all of the immigration and ballot reform changes he’s calling for, at this time.

There were no surprises at first when Governor Ron DeSantis said his proposed state budget for the next fiscal year includes more money for Everglades restoration. But what he said later shocked many, and his words are still reverberating through the state’s environmentalists, as WGCU’s Tom Bayless reports.

From the Panhandle down in to parts of Central Florida, a rare winter storm dumped freezing rain and even snow this week. Gina Jordan spoke with Florida Public Radio Emergency Network Meteorologist Megan Borowski to try to figure our what happened and if it can happen again.
