Concealed carry; Talkable Communities; mayoral town hall; Lucero

Florida could become the 26th state to allow people to carry concealed, loaded guns without permits. This, under legislation endorsed Monday by House Speaker Paul Renner and the Florida Sheriffs Association.

Dubbed “constitutional carry,” by supporters, the concept behind the bill also has the backing of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

At the same time, the first week of February is National Gun Violence Survivors Week. More people die from gun violence by early February in the U.S. than an entire calendar year in other high income countries.

Talkable Communities

Talkable Communities is an innovative collaboration among five local behavioral health organizations. The goal is to enhance mental well-being for children and families and reduce substance misuse and suicide in a six-county area of Northeast Florida.

Starting this month, Talkable Communities is providing free, evidence-based mental health trainings in six Northeast Florida counties. And you can take part.

The Interfaith Center for Northeast Florida will host its first-ever Jax Mayoral Candidate Town Hall next week. Melissa Ross of WJCT Public Media will moderate.
