A bronze statue of children sits outside of Duval County Public Schools administration building.

For years, the Duval County Public Schools has conducted the federally funded Youth Risk Behavioral Study. This year’s survey was about to get underway when it was canceled at the urging of the state Department of Education.

Some parents have complained about the survey, which they say asks young students inappropriate questions about sex and other topics. Supporters of the survey say it collects vital data that can help save the lives of at-risk children.

Guests:

  • Elizabeth Andersen, mental health counselor and former Duval School Board chair.
  • Elissa Barr, professor of public health at the University of North Florida.
