Substitute teacher fired

Brian Covey, a Jacksonville substitute teacher, was fired last week after posting a video of empty bookshelves that Gov. Ron DeSantis called “a fake narrative.” The clip went viral at a time when teachers in the state are removing or covering books in public schools to comply with new state laws.

Duval Schools said Covey's video misrepresented the true situation. The district then posted its own video, showing the same empty shelves alongside other shelves that were full of books.

Covey says few books are in fact available to students.

Guest: Brian Covey.

City Council candidate

We’re continuing our occasional series on candidates for local office. Today, it's Jennifer Casey, a candidate for Jacksonville City Council District 2.

Casey has served as chair of the Duval Soil and Water Conservation District Board for two years. She’s running to replace Al Ferraro in District 2, which includes parts of Arlington and the Northside.

Guest: Jennifer Casey, City Council candidate.
