Gov. Ron DeSantis waves as he finishes his State of the State address during a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on March 7, 2023, at the Capitol in Tallahassee.

Gov. Ron Desantis is expected to announce his run for president at any time.

Desantis has used his conservative support to pass laws in Florida from abortion to guns to education. Today, we spoke with the leader of Red Wine and Blue, Rachel Vindman.

Red Wine and Blue has organized suburban women to go against what they refer to as “extremism.” They combat issues such as fights over masks, bans on books and diversity education.

Vindman is the creator of “The Suburban Woman Problem” podcast and is new to Florida.

ADAPT and JEA

ADAPT and JEA invite you to a community conversation regarding JEA’s plans for the energy mix for Northeast Florida. We spoke with Raynetta Marshall, JEA’s chief operating officer, to give us a preview about the special event taking place at WJCT studios this week. WJCT’s own Melissa Ross will be leading the panel discussion.

'Seen'

Julie Delegal, who won the Eric Hoffer Book Award for fiction for young adults, joined us to talk about her book "Seen." The book was inspired by a tragedy that took place in Jacksonville 23 years ago, when 15-year-old Brenton Butler was arrested in the murder of a Georgia tourist in 2000.

Jazz Festival 2023

The Jacksonville Jazz Festival is back this year for Memorial Day weekend. We spoke with local Jazz star John Lumpkin, who will be joining you in jamming this weekend. Join John, Chaka Khan and Charlie Wilson, to name a few, in a weekend full of good music.
