Today, we welcomed journalist, writer and performer Al Letson as interim host for First Coast Connect. Al has been away for a few years, but he hopes that the guest and most importantly you the audience will help him catch up to what’s going on in the city of Jacksonville.

State laws

A whopping 200-plus bills went into effect in Florida on Saturday. AG Gancarski of Jacksonville Today and Florida Politics joined us to sort through some of the biggest bills that affect you the people.

Among the Bills Discussed:

  • Permitless carry.
  • Immigration.
  • Voting rights.
  • Renters’ rights.
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion on campus.

Energy conservation

We all know that Florida gets extremely hot during the summer, and it will be that way for a while.

Brian Pippin, JEA’S director of customer experience insights and strategy, gave us tips for conserving energy and keeping utility bills down during this heat wave.

Surfboard contest

Local surfboard legend Mike Whisnant was recently tapped by RadiFi (formerly Jax Federal Credit Union) to create nine surfboards — one of which will be given away in a contest open to the public.

Whisnant talked more about his career in shaping surfboards in Northeast Florida for 34 years.

What’s Good Wednesday
