Jacksonville Today
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland shows the areas where the government says Ameris Bank wasn't offering mortgages, shown in orange and red.

Today, we shine a light on the pervasive issue of redlining in Jacksonville and its profound effect on residents here on the First Coast. We aim to unravel the layers of redlining, explore its historical context, present the consequences and outline potential pathways toward a more equitable future.

Guests:

  • Warren Jones, former City Council president and current School Board member.
  • Pedro Cohen, president of the Jacksonville branch of Local Initiatives Support Corp.

 'Woke' perspectives

We also explore the political evolution of the term “woke’ with Jacksonville Today reporter Will Brown.

In his latest Jax Today article, Brown uncovers the transformation of “woke” into a political buzzword and a label for education programs, often targeted by Florida politicians, including Gov. Ron DeSantis. Many say the governor's use of the term "woke" carries racist undertones.
