Mayor Donna Deegan joins us today on First Coast Connect. This is the community’s opportunity to voice concerns or questions directly to the mayor herself.
Among the topics discussed:
- The long-awaited reopening of Friendship Fountain today. This iconic structure, designed by Jacksonville architect Taylor Hardwick, first opened in 1965.
- The mayor's initiative motivating children to read for a minimum of 20 minutes daily. She talked about the kickoff event and also her vision for the future.
- Streamlining the permitting process in a city with a history of extensive growth.
- City Council's vote to grant certain officeholders authority to approve legal settlements. The decision came despite concerns expressed by Chief Financial Officer Anna Brosche, the Risk Management Office and the Office of General Counsel.
- The relationship between the mayor and city leadership.
