Real life 'ghosting' horror stories

Angela Hsieh/NPR

From sudden silence after a decades-long friendship to disappearing acts in the dating world, First Coast Connect listeners share their scariest “ghost stories.” And to help lift the spell, we’ll get several experts’ advice on what motivates people to ghost and how to handle the cold shoulder when it comes.

Guests:

  • Gabriel Ybarra, associate professor of psychology at the University of North Florida.
  • Connie Worthy, licensed mental health counselor at Worthy Wellbeing.
  • Amy Love, pro-bono matchmaker and arts advocate education director.

Then, the historic Florida Theatre is famous for its paranormal activity, with tales of a resident spirit who keeps a close watch from the balcony. Florida Theatre President Numa Saisselin joins us to reveal some ghostly encounters that aren’t always part of the show.

And, Evergreen Cemetery stands as the city's oldest resting place still in operation. With over 70,000 graves —some with haunting Titanic ties — we’ll journey through its chilling history, explore the VIP section and uncover the rumored spirits who’ve made these hallowed grounds their eternal home.

Guest:

  • Alan Bliss, CEO of the Jacksonville Historical Society and the Jacksonville History Center.

Plus, in the spirit of Florida’s Mobility Week, the organizers behind the Day of the Tread halloween bike ride join us to talk about a chilling, party-paced cruise through 10 to 20 miles of historic Riverside — a ghoulishly good time on wheels!
