“You can’t just be all nicey-nicey about everything,” Marjory Stoneman Douglas says in the new documentary, River of Grass. “This is a fight. This is a real battle.” Filmmaker Sasha Wortzel picks up the struggle in her new film, which takes the title of the late author’s seminal 1947 book, as she pushes the story into the present day. Sparked by a dreamlike visitation from Douglas, Wortzel’s film dives into the Everglades’ ongoing environmental challenges, historic spiritual significance and perpetually dazzling (if greatly diminished) landscape. We talk to the filmmaker about telling the story in the age of climate crisis.
Guest: Sasha Wortzel, artist, filmmaker and director of River of Grass
