A new exhibition aims to revise longstanding and historically dubious images of Native American history by cultivating a new body of work, created by artists from the Muscogee, Seminole and Miccosukee nations. A collaborative partnership between faculty at the University of North Florida and seven indigenous artists, the exhibition is titled Visualizing Indigenous Florida and offers a historical corrective to the images often associated with early Florida by engraver Theodore de Bry. We meet two of the participating artists and discuss how broadening the visual lens of history can help ameliorate problematic versions of the past.
