New signs are going up at a number of Tallahassee banks. The rebranding is an effort to build a unified corporate image across multi-state serving areas.

What were “Tallahassee Banks” are now “Synovus” banks, named after the corporation that acquired the local institution in 1989. Meanwhile, the city’s “Hancock Banks” are now “Hancock-Whitney” banks. Although Tallahassee Hancock-Whitney Market President Emory Mayfield insisted the change will be pretty transparent as far as customers are concerned.

“It’s going to have minimal impact on our clients and other than seeing new signage, new business cards, debit and credit cards, there’s not going to be any impact on them.”

Hancock, which operates in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi, acquired Louisiana and Texas-based Whitney Bank eight years ago. The combined name logo will now be seen in all of those states.
